Only 286 out of 11,470 coronavirus patients are vaccinated, says Armenian health minister
85% of hospital beds secured for Covid-19 patients in Armenia have been used, Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan said.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting on Friday, she said 2,006 out of the 2,156 hospital beds are currently occupied.
Armenia reported 906 new virus cases and 16 deaths on Friday. In total, 6,321 tests were performed in the past 24 hours.
Warning that the situation will worsen in fall due to the expected increase in other diseases, the minister urged people to get vaccinated and observe the safety rules.
“The purpose of our call to the citizens to curb the spread of the disease and reduce the hospitalization rates as much as possible is to give the people with other diseases the opportunity to get access to medical care,” Avanesyan said, adding the vaccination rates have sharply increased in the country in the recent days.
According to her, the indicators show that the trust in Covid-19 vaccines is growing.
"At the moment, there are 11,470 people with a positive Covid test result and only 286 of them have been vaccinated," Avanesyan said, adding the vaccines don't block the infection 100%, but significantly reduce the risk of falling seriously ill.
She said only 38 out of the 2,006 hospitalized Covid-19 patients are vaccinated, adding they have not developed any severe symptoms.
