Armenian foreign minister meets with UN chief
On September 25, within the framework of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Secretary General of the United Nations António Guterres.
Ararat Mirzoyan congratulated António Guterres on his reappointment as UN Secretary General, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The interlocutors commended the effective cooperation between Armenia and the various specialized UN bodies.
The Armenian FM and the UN chief exchanged views on regional stability and security issues.
Mirzoyan drew attention to the humanitarian consequences of the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against the people of Nagorno Karabakh in the fall of 2020, emphasizing the imperative of the unconditional repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and captured civilians currently held by Azerbaijan. He stressed the need for the unimpeded entry of UN humanitarian bodies into Artsakh. In this context, the interlocutors also stressed the importance of preserving cultural and religious heritage in the conflict zone.
The foreign minister of Armenia stressed the need for a lasting and comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship.
