Peaceful protest of young ARF activists outside Armenian Embassy in U.S. angers Lilit Makunts
A peaceful protest held by activists of the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF), the youth organization of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), outside the Armenian Embassy in the U.S. has angered Armenia’s new Ambassador Lilit Makunts, who has called the police on them.
Makunts organized an event marking the 30th anniversary of Armenia’s independence at the Armenian Embassy in Washington on Friday. In the meantime, young ARF activists gathered outside the embassy building, denouncing the celebration as “insulting” at a time when Armenian prisoners of war (POWs) are still being held in Azerbaijan, the ARF official website reported.
First, the embassy staff asked AYF protesters to leave, however they refused to heed the call, claiming that they were not violating the law.
The embassy then told the Secret Service employees to disperse the protest.
Incidentally, when asked by the young activists whether they were violating the law, the police gave a negative response, the ARF said.
