Armenian MP: Processes taking place in South Caucasus are quite multilayered
The developments in the South Caucasus region are rather multilayered, according to Armenian security expert Tigran Abrahamyan, an MP from the opposition With Honor faction.
"The processes taking place in the South Caucasus are quite multilayered. The interests of different geopolitical and regional centers and players collide here,” he wrote on Facebook on Friday.
“On the outer side, there are the influential actor in the region, Russia, Turkey which has great ambitions, our friendly country and one of the key regional players, Iran, the West, which is becoming active or passive at different stages with its different wings, and, finally, China, which has more delicate approaches, but is a significant factor.
“I believe that it is difficult to consider the changes expected in the South Caucasus in the coming decades without taking into account the role of China, with which, incidentally, there is a large and beneficial area of cooperation, but the current authorities deliberately ignore it.
“When it comes to external security and deterrence of Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression, China has multiple points of contact with Iran, Russia and, of course, Armenia, while this potential is currently far from being realized,” Abrahamyan said.
Also, he congratulated the people of China on the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China celebrated on October 1.
