Robert Kocharyan: We can restore our role in the region only through rebuilding the security system
"The only way to restore our role in the region is through partial then full rebuilding of our army and the security system, in general," Armenia's second president Robert Kocharyan stated at a press conference on Monday.
In Kocharyan's words, Armenia is located in a region where it can not survive without a combat-ready army and a working security system. He recalled a recent study by Alexandr Iskandaryan suggesting our mentality does not correspond to the region we are living in. "I think that is an exact formulation. We should swiftly restore ourselves and regain our role in the region," said the president.
Kocharyan went on insisting the current leaders of Armenia are not intended to do that first because they are not capable as they have been consistently destroying that system since 2018, and there can be no hope and expectation they could rebuilt something they have destroyed.
Speaking of the status of the Artsakh Republic (NKR), Kocharyan said: "We have nothing left for bargaining on the negotiation table. We need diplomatic skills of different level to record some success. In parallel to that, we will have nothing unless we change our role in the region. We have no bargaining chip, neither any leverage as a country in the region."
