Tigran Abrahamyan: Armenian authorities brought country to the point where it ‘has no say’
Security expert Tigran Abrahamyan, a lawmaker from the opposition With Honor faction, blamed the Armenian authorities for bringing the country to the point where it has no right to voice opinions.
"Our problem is not that a populist announces his readiness to hand over all minefield maps to Azerbaijan for Armenian prisoners of war and other captives held in Azerbaijan to return home,” he wrote on Facebook on Monday, adding everyone in Armenia and Artsakh naturally wants them back as soon as possible.
“The problem is that the release of POWs is envisaged by the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, but Azerbaijan has made an additional demand, which is already noted in various international reports or statements. However, Azerbaijan does not agree to fully implement the provision of the tripartite statement even in exchange for that,” the MP said.
“The authorities have brought Armenia to the point where Yerevan has no say in matters that concern us, and provisions favorable to us are implemented only when they are in the interests of other countries.
“The authorities have to answer for the fate of the citizens, who were tortured or killed in Azerbaijan, because the fate of many of our compatriots remains uncertain due to insufficient efforts and the failure to set a deadline for the return of prisoners in the trilateral statement,” Abrahamyan said.
