Ambassador Vigen Chitechyan dies at 80
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia Vigen Chitechyan has passed away at the age of 80, the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported on Wednesday.
From the first years of Armenia’s independence Chitechyan held high state positions, making a great contribution to the building of the Armenian statehood.
Through many years of his activity and rich experience, he had a significant input into the development of the foreign policy and the diplomatic service of the Republic of Armenia.
Vigen Chitechyan was Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Industry from 1990-1991, and served as State Minister in 1991-1993. From 1993-1995, he was Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia.
Between 1995 and 2018, Chitechyan served as Armenia’s Ambassador to France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Monaco, Andorra and the Vatican, as well as head of the Armenian missions to NATO and EU.
