Yerevan court refuses to suspend arrested Kajaran head from office
The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by judge Armine Meliksetyan, has denied the motion of the National Security Service (NSS) to suspend Manvel Paramazyan, the arrested head of the Kajaran community, from office.
The court revoked the decision to suspend the powers of the mayor on Thursday, Paramazyan’s lawyers, Lusine Sahakyan and Yervand Varosyan, said in a joint statement.
The lawyers consider the judge's decision to be objective and lawful. They noted that the judge, whom they had criticized a lot in the past, this time made a fair decision.
The head of Kajaran has been under arrest for several months. He is accused of fraud, bribery and vote-buying. Paramazyan denies any wrongdoing, saying the charges are “politically motivated”.
