Constitutional Court of Armenia rejects president’s appeal
The Constitutional Court of Armenia on Tuesday rejected an appeal of President Armen Sarkissian to determine the constitutionality of the law on amendments and supplements to the Judicial Code and eight related laws adopted by the Armenian parliament on April 14.
The top court said in a statement that "due to the equality of votes" it could not make a decision in the case, therefore the appeal is considered rejected in accordance with Article 62 (Part 9) of the law "On Constitutional Court".
Sarkissian asked the Constitutional Court to rule on the legality of the package of laws on April 12. After holding a series of meetings with expert circles, he stated that the amendments were in fact unconstitutional.
