Appellate court rejects request to release Goris community head
The Court of Appeals, presided over by judge Mher Arghamanyan, on Wednesday upheld a lower court ruling to keep Arush Arushanyan, the head of the Goris community of Armenia’s Syunik Province, under arrest, denying a motion to release him on bail, Pastinfo reported.
According to the source, even the prosecutor did not attend the court hearing, notifying the court that he was busy and did not object to the consideration of the defense appeal without his participation.
Arush Arushanyan has been placed under arrest for two months since 16 July. He is charged with offering bribes to two people to get them to vote in favor of the opposition Armenia bloc in the June 20 snap parliamentary elections.
