Artur Vanetsyan, the head of the opposition With Honor parliamentary faction and chairman of the Homeland Party, on Tuesday met with Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) Montreal Chairman Chahe Tanachian and Executive Board Secretary Hagop Arslanian, the party said in a statement on Wednesday.

The meeting addressed a number of issues related to the security and social protection of the people of Artsakh, as well as the pan-Armenian agenda.

The AGBU Canada representatives shared ideas of the implementation of programs in the Artsakh Republic, noting that the Armenian Diaspora will always stand with the people of Artsakh.

Vanetsyan, in turn, reiterated the position of the Homeland Party and the With Honor faction that the issue of Artsakh's self-determination remains unresolved, stating it must be resolved through negotiations under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group.

In addition, he stressed the need for the release of all Armenians captured by Azerbaijan, as well as the return of the Azerbaijani-occupied territories of Artsakh. He attached special importance to the issue of bringing Azerbaijan to justice by competent international instances for war crimes committed during the 2020 Artsakh war.

In terms of effective cooperation between Armenia and the Diaspora, Artur Vanetsyan stressed the importance of restoring trust, which has been shaken due to the “irresponsible and short-sighted steps” taken by the Armenian authorities.

Vanetsyan presented the vision of the Homeland Party regarding the restoration of the security system in Armenia and Artsakh, as well as a number of domestic political issues. In particular, he stated that the removal of the current regime would pave the way for the development of Armenia and Artsakh.

The sides agreed to develop the established relations for the benefit of the two Armenian states and Armenians around the world.
