Orchestral composition “Yerevan sketches” performed in Cuthbert Church in London
A concert dedicated to the 150the anniversary of Alexandr Spendaryan and 100th anniversary of Arno Babajanyan took place on October 16 in in Cuthbert Church in London. Th event was organised by Klingen Choir and Cultural Association with the support of the Embassy of Armenia to the UK. The concert was led by conductor, tenor and pianist Sipan Olah (UK-Armenia).
As Spendarian Museum-house reported, masterpieces by Spendaryan and Babajanyan were performed by internationally acclaimed professional singers, sopranos - Andriana Yordanova (Malta-Bulgaria), Tatevik Ashuryan-Karapetyan (Germany), Hayarpi Yeghikyan (UK) and mezzo soprano Helen Rotchell (UK). Piano music was presented by well-known pianists-Yulia Chaplina (UK-Russia), Maria Palazian (UK) and Stavros Dritsas (Greece).
Violinist laureates-Ani Batikian (UK), Paula Gorbanova (Latvia) and violist-Gayane Mirzoyan (Austria) along with the Klingen Chamber Orchestra played orchestral compositions by the two composers and the Klingen Choir performed songs by Babajanyan. Some of these pieces, including orchestral composition “Yerevan sketches” and "Armenian Rhapsody" for two pianos have never been performed in the UK before.
The event also featured picture exhibition by the British-Armenian artists Leonie Pilart and Anna Virabyan based on the themes of the concert’s musical programme.
The Ambassador of Armenia to the United Kingdom Varuzhan Nersesyan addressed the audience during the event.
