Armenia a reliable partner of NATO, official says
Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Thursday hosted Javier Colomina Píriz, the NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, to discuss cooperation and international and regional security issues, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the level of political dialogue between Armenia and NATO. Mirzoyan stressed the importance of implementing the Individual Partnership Action Plan as an effective tool for developing the Armenia-NATO cooperation.
In his turn, Píriz noted that Armenia is considered a reliable partner of the North Atlantic Alliance.
The sides discussed the continuous involvement of Armenian peacekeeping troops in international peacekeeping missions. Javier Colomina Píriz expressed gratitude to Armenia for its participation in the NATO peacekeeping operations.
During the meeting, Mirzoyan drew the NATO official’s attention to the situation resulted from the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan with Turkey’s support against the people of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). In this context, he stressed the need for a lasting and comprehensive settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the format of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship.
The sides also highlighted the importance of compliance with the principle of non-use of force for the settlement of disputes.
