Tigran Abrahamyan: A lot of material on circumstances surrounding last year’s war ‘will simply be destroyed’
One year after the end of the war in Artsakh, the Armenian authorities continue to hide many circumstances surrounding the war, its causes, as well as their failure to take any measures to overcome the post-war crisis, security expert Tigran Abrahamyan, a lawmaker from the opposition With Honor faction, said on Thursday.
Speaking at a discussion organized by the Truth for Generations initiative and in attendance of the parents and other relatives of the fallen soldiers, the MP expressed concerns that a lot of material on the circumstances surrounding the war “will simply be destroyed”.
"I have concerns that in addition to doing everything possible to shift responsibility for the current situation to various fictitious targets, the authorities will use this time and simply destroy a lot of material on the circumstances surrounding the war,” he said.
“At present, it is obvious that the authorities have not only prepared the necessary political and information background for that, but also managed to shut the mouths of some people through pressure and intimidation," Abrahamyan said.
He stated with regret that answers to many questions can be found only when the current leaders don’t rule the country.
The opposition MP also blamed the authorities for the failure to take all the necessary steps to clarify the fates of the missing persons.
"Our main problem is that the people responsible for the fates of our compatriots work extremely bad, have not used and do not use all the opportunities that would allow us to learn more about the fate of the missing," Abrahamyan said.
He called attention to Clause 8 of the November 9 ceasefire agreement, which refers to the return of captives, saying the document does not set a specific date for it, whereas the deadlines for the handover of the territories to Azerbaijan are clearly indicated.
