Opposition MP: Unblocking of regional transport links will lead to deeper blockade
It is “regrettable” that the current Armenian authorities failed to draw conclusions even after last year’s war in Artsakh, Armenia’s former Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, the head of the opposition Armenia parliamentary faction, said on Sunday.
His comments came during a visit of the Armenia faction MPs to Armenia’s second largest city of Gyumri as part of their ongoing regional trips.
"The losing streak continued, the Azerbaijanis, Turks appeared on the borders of Armenia. Moreover, they invaded our territory, capturing the key strategic points – the heights, roads and infrastructures ensuring the viability of the border settlements of Armenia," Ohanyan noted.
According to him, today all this is used for speculation and pressure on Armenia.
"The main goal is to further tighten the noose around Armenia and Artsakh, the so-called “unblocking of transport links” will lead to a deeper blockade in the future, it will manifest itself in the form of economic pressures, and the worst thing is that it will change the demographic profile in those regions – Syunik and Gegharkunik,” he stated.
In the lawmaker’s words, the Turks will come to Armenia and Artsakh under the pretext of economic development and establishing ties, as a result of which the future of Armenia will become uncertain.
Ohanyan underscored that the main goal of their latest activities is to form a national resistance under the slogan "No to the Turkification of Armenia and No to the Desolation of Artsakh."
"Today there are some uncertainties surrounding the situation in Armenia and the region. There is an assumption that another capitulation document will be signed on November 9, and I believe this document will globally concern, as they say, the strengthening of peace in the region. Peace entails recognizing the territorial integrity of the adversary, whereas recognizing the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan means seriously questioning the self-determination and destiny of Artsakh," Ohanyan explained.
Armenia faction MP Artur Khachatryan, in his turn, said that they demanded an urgent meeting on Tuesday afternoon to clarify issues related to the border delimitation and demarcation.
