Former MP urges Armenian authorities to declare one-week lockdown amid Covid surge
Former lawmaker Naira Zohrabyan from the opposition Prosperous Armenia faction urges the authorities to declare a week-long lockdown across the country amid a surge in coronavirus infections.
“Shut down the educational institutions and declare a week-long lockdown, paying the citizens!” she wrote on Facebook on Monday, pointing to the high daily case numbers and deaths.
Armenia reported 1,184 new Covid-19 cases and 42 deaths on Monday, with the national tally standing at 296,552.
She said that she caught the virus after being fully vaccinated in June, but did not develop any serious symptoms. Zohrabyan cited the statistics, according to which 99.9% of Covid-19 deaths are among unvaccinated people.
She also accused the authorities of poor vaccination campaign.
“It is not explained to an individual that even if death is a choice, the death of others cannot be his/her hobby,” the ex-MP said.
“I hate to make any calls, but in this uncontrollable situation all educational institutions should immediately switch to online learning, and, if necessary, a lockdown should be announced for a period of time, during which citizens should be paid their salaries, which is the case in Russia,” Zohrabyan said, stating no one has the right to endanger another person's life.
