The Delegation of the US Office of Naval Research Global visiting Armenia to build partnerships with local sci-tech community
The Delegation of the US Office of Naval Research (ONR) Global is visiting Armenia at the initiative of the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology. The Program Manager at the ONR Global Patrick Rose met on Monday with reporters in Yerevan to present details of their familiarization visit to Armenia and introduce funding opportunities for young Armenian scientists.
In his words, the visit is aimed at finding promising, advanced technologies and emerging scientific research, foster collaborations, invest in high-payoff technologies, and support state-of-the-art research through a range of funding mechanisms.
"We are looking for ideas no one might believe in their potential and which might seem strange and infeasible at first look," Dr. Rose said, adding one of the attractive sides of launching cooperation is Armenia's rich scientific-educational history, the prospects of the science development, the potential and existence of such eco-systems as the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology.
"We invite Armenian scientists to present their most impracticable ideas and scientific research. We will directly work with scientists to assess what resources are required to bring those ideas to life. This is the first cooperation with Armenia, and we hope it would put the ground for various partnerships," said Dr. Rose.
As part of the visit, the guests will explore Armenia's potential with a full-scale schedule of visits and meetings with numerous sci-tech education and research entities in Armenia. They will visit the National Science Academy, the Yerevan State University, National Polytechnic University of Armenia the American University of Armenia, Byurakan Observatory, Tumo Center. Meetings with number of tech organizations, startups and startup hubs are planned.
Apart from that, on November 10 and 11, the guests will hold an open meeting with young scientists, representatives of sci-tech companies and startups.
