Acute respiratory infections grew significantly this year, says Armenia’s health minister
Acute respiratory infections have significantly increased in Armenia this year, Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan said in the parliament on Monday.
“In contract to last year, when the Covid-19 restrictions led to a sharp decrease in movement, also reducing infections among children, this year acute respiratory infections and coronavirus go hand in hand,” she said.
The minister highlighted that the Delta variant causes more severe disease, including in children and young people, leading to deaths.
“The burden on the health system is terrible. It can be stated that the hospital beds across the country are completely occupied at this point," Avanesyan said.
