Armenia’s permanent population on the decline: statistics
Armenia’s permanent population keeps dropping. According to the latest figures released by the Statistical Committee, the population of Armenia is 2 966.8 thousand as of 1 October, 2021. Some 1 896.1 thousand people live urban communities, while 1 070.7 thousand live in rural communities.
The country’s population numbered 2 967.9 thousand in 2020, 2 957.5 thousand - in 2019 and 2 969.2 thousand - in 2018.
In January-September 2021, the population viability rate, i.e. the ratio of birth and death rates stood at 113.2%՝ against the 124.8% recorded in the same period of the previous year.
An estimated number of 26,809 babies were born in Armenia from January to September this year, while the death number stood at 23,674. The ratio of birth and death stood at 3,135 people in 2021 against 5,274 recorded in 2020.
