‘Outright cynicism’: Opposition MP Hayk Mamijanyan slams Artsrun Hovhannisyan’s involvement in war inquiry commission
MP Hayk Mamijanyan from the opposition With Honor faction denounced the Armenian authorities for involving former Defense Ministry representative Artsrun Hovhannisyan in the commission tasked with investigating the circumstances of last year’s war in Artsakh, calling it an “outright cynicism”.
"The accomplices can't investigate the committed crimes,” he told a briefing in the parliament on Wednesday, in response to a question about an objective inquiry.
He condemned Hovhannisyan for “telling lies” during the 44-day war, stating he has repeatedly “refuted his own statements”.
“Artsrun Hovhannisyan’s involvement as an expert in the commission of inquiry into the circumstances of the 44-day war by the authorities is an outright cynicism. It is the same as the involvement of [Soviet serial killer] Chikatilo in the Commission for the Prevention of Violence against Women,” Mamijanyan stated, adding it is a deliberate move by the authorities.
As for the activity of the commission, according to him, it all boils down to the fact that its sole purpose will be to find guilty persons.
"Most likely, they will be from the army. The commission of inquiry, first and foremost, should be a tool of the opposition," Mamijanyan said.
