The actions of the Azerbaijani authorities constitute a war crime - Arman Tatoyan
Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan disused the human rights violations by the Azerbaijani military during the Nagorno Karabakh 2020 war in an online conversation with American-Armenian lawyers Karnig Kerkonian and Garo Ghazarian. The lawyers are the co-chairmen of the Armenian Rights Watch Committee.
Tatoyan once again stressed that the mere presence of Azerbaijani servicemen in the immediate vicinity of civilian communities is a violation of the right of people; residents of the communities are living under constant threat to their lives.
Tatoyan reminded that since the first day of the war the Azerbaijani authorities concealed the exact number of Armenian captives, pointing to the announced figure 297. The Ombudsman added that Azerbaijan continues the illegal detention of the captives using them for political bargaining and other reasons.
"The actions the Azerbaijani authorities constitute a war crime," emphasized Tatoyan, also voicing concern over the state-sponsored hatred, genocidal and fascist policy conducted by Azerbaijan against Armenians, which is the root cause of the ethnic violence committed by the Azerbaijani military.
