Armenian Robin the Robot named the best invention of 2021 by Time magazine
Armenian-created Robin the Robot, which is a social robot that helps kids mitigate stress and loneliness while they are receiving treatment in a hospital, has been named the recognized as Best Invention of 2021 in the Robotics category by Time Magazine.
"We are honored to receive this prestigious award as it recognizes Robin's essential role in impacting patients' lives from pediatric to elderly care and beyond. This award once again redefines our commitment to create new standards of care and make quality caregiving accessible to everyone. Kudos to the entire team to make this happen. Cheers to more exciting updates to come!" the founder of the initiative Karén Khachikyan posted on Facebook, commenting on the prestigious recognition.
As the magazine describes, the robot is like a real-life Pixar character that can recognize a child’s emotions and respond based on stored memory, even explaining medical procedures in a simple way. Robin is being used in 12 facilities worldwide and is set to be deployed in another 100 in the U.S. over the next 12 months.
