Arsen Babayan: Opposition needs to find the strength to admit its mistakes in parliamentary elections
Arsen Babayan, a member of the Council of the opposition Homeland Party, which is part of the With Honor bloc, congratulated incumbent opposition Mayor of Kapan Gevorg Parsyan on winning reelection decisively on Sunday.
In the meantime, he stressed the opposition should identify and admit its mistakes made in the snap parliamentary elections in June, that led to the victory of Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party.
"Before the parliamentary elections, all objective polls and studies showed that the level of confidence in the authorities amounted to a maximum of 30% (20-25% + 5-10% due to the administrative resources), however 54% was recorded according to the voting results. Such a deviation had never been registered before,” Babayan wrote on Facebook.
“In the local government elections, the election results in major cities show that the mentioned polls and surveys were correct.
“It is necessary to deeply analyze and record the errors and reasons, that paved the way for the current authorities to gain 54% of the vote in the parliamentary elections. It is necessary for the opposition to find the strength to acknowledge these mistakes.
“I would like to congratulate the newly elected Mayor of Kapan, Mr. Parsyan. Congratulations on the fact that you were able to analyze the mistakes, accept them and win!” he said.
