Azerbaijani forces intruded into Armenian territory in eastern section, pulled back after talks – Security Council
The Armenian Security Council on Monday issued a statement confirming that Azerbaijani forces used armored vehicles to intrude into Armenia’s sovereign territory in one of the eastern sections of the border on Sunday.
The Security Council also claims that as a result of the Azerbaijani advance, four Armenian army outposts were encircled. Nevertheless, after negotiations the Azerbaijani troops were withdrawn from the area. Armenian army units were also withdrawn from the mentioned four positions.
“Nevertheless, Azerbaijani servicemen, who have invaded Armenia’s sovereign territory since May this year, continue to be deployed in that section,” it said.
The Security Council denies rumors that the troops were ordered not to fire. It has instructed the competent bodies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The Security Council draws the attention of Russia, the CSTO and the international community to Azerbaijan's aggressive actions, stressing that these actions are directed against Armenia's sovereignty, territorial integrity and regional security, as well as are contrary to the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020.
"The Armenian Security Council expresses the determination of the authorities and the people to defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of the homeland," the statement reads.
