Armenian, Russian defense ministers discuss border situation after Azerbaijani attack
Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan on Tuesday held a phone call with Russian Defense Minister, Army General Sergei Shoigu to discuss the situation on the eastern section of the border following the fresh provocation by the Azerbaijani military.
Papikyan underscored that the incursion of the Azerbaijani military into the sovereign territory of Armenia is a gross violation of the November 9 trilateral statement and jeopardizes the entire negotiation process, the Armenian Defense Ministry reported.
The Russian defense minister, in turn, expressed his readiness to make every effort to end the hostilities, return the prisoners of war and resolve the situation.
The Azerbaijani armed forces once again resorted to provocation, attacking the Armenian positions in the eastern border section on Tuesday afternoon. Local battles with the use of artillery, armored vehicles and small arms are taking place, the ministry said.
