Serzh Sargsyan summoned for questioning as defendant by Anti-Corruption Committee, lawyer says
Armenia’s third President Serzh Sargsyan has been summoned to the Anti-Corruption Committee for questioning as a defendant, his lawyer Amram Makinyan said on Facebook on Monday.
The summons is based on the testimony of businesswoman Silva Hambardzumyan, who said in November 2018 that she gave bribes to high-ranking officials at various times.
The absurdity, according to the lawyer, is that three and a half years after Hambardzumyan testified, the authorities “suddenly decided” that she also bribed Sargsyan.
"Serzh Sargsyan was questioned as a witness in this case two years ago, and so far no circumstances have changed or emerged legally," Makinyan wrote.
The lawyer promised to provide details of the "legal disgrace" later.
The case involves second Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and former Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan.
