Lawyer: We will prove that case against war veteran Ashot Minasyan is fabricated
Artsakh war veteran Ashot Minasyan (a.k.a. Ashot the Iron) is in a good mood despite being arrested last week, his lawyer Mihran Poghosyan told a news conference on Monday.
Minasyan, the commander of the Sisakan volunteer unit that took part in two Artsakh wars, was arrested last Wednesday on charges of plotting to kill Nikol Pashinyan and seize power along with several other political and military figures last year. He was first arrested in November 2020 to be released shortly afterwards.
The lawyer denounced his client’s arrest as “completely unlawful”.
"We will fight till the end and prove that the criminal case against him is fabricated," the lawyer stated.
Lawyer Erik Aleksanyan, who participated in the news conference, stated that political persecution is being carried out against the opposition figures, whose interests they are defending.
"Unfortunately, the political persecution in the Republic of Armenia not only continues, but has also further intensified," Aleksanyan said.
According to him, apart from the Prosecutor's Office and the Special Investigation Service, the authorities now use the judiciary as an instrument of political persecution.
