Armenian opposition MP Mkhitar Zakaryan swears an oath, calls for release of his colleagues
MP Mkhitar Zakaryan from the main opposition Hayastan (Armenia) faction, who was released last Friday, took the oath from the parliament podium on Thursday, also calling for the release of other opposition figures remaining under arrest.
"I swear to fulfill in good faith all the duties assumed before the people, observe the Constitution and laws, promote the sovereignty and the interests of the Republic of Armenia, to do my best for the preservation of civil solidarity, national and universal values," he read out the text of the oath.
"As a logical conclusion to this text, I would like to make my first appeal: freedom to Arush Arushanyan, Manvel Paramazyan and our other colleagues arrested unlawfully!" Zakaryan said.
Mkhitar Zakaryan was among the three Hayastan MPs released from custody one day after the Constitutional Court declared their arrests unlawful. The two other released lawmakers are Armen Charchyan and Artur Sargsyan.
