Mkhitaryan: I believe we can fight against all teams in our Nations League group
Armenian national football team captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan commented on the results of the UEFA Nations League draw, which took place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on Thursday.
Armenia was drawn into Group 1 of League B and will face Ireland, Scotland and Ukraine, the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) reported.
"I think it's not the easiest group, but it could have been much worse. We know Ireland very well and have "very good" memories about them. We'll play against Scotland for the first time. As for Ukraine, Armenia has played against them multiple times. Although the last meeting was in early 2000s, we know them very well. I strongly believe that we are capable of fighting against these teams and surprise them. If we manage to stay in League B, it will be a success,” he said in comments to the FFA.
Speaking about the draw, head coach Joaquin Caparros said Armenia ended up in a tough group.
“The fact that we are now facing such teams means that we have also made a progress and have a relevant level. The teams are prepared very well physically and technically. We have to be competitive and play for a win in all the matches. Of course, Ukraine are the favorite, but Ireland and Scotland are also good teams," the manager said.
