Expert: Armenia listed among countries using spyware against people for first time
Armenia has been listed among the countries that use a software to spy on people for the first time, information security expert Samvel Martirosyan said on Facebook on Friday, citing the findings of Meta and CitizenLab.
He says a spyware is used by the authorities to target politicians and journalists.
"This is the first time that Armenia, as a state, has found itself on the list of such countries,” the expert wrote.
Predator spyware, built and sold by North Macedonia-based spyware Cytrox, has been used to infect people’s phones, CitizenLab said.
“We conducted Internet scanning for Predator spyware servers and found likely Predator customers in Armenia, Egypt, Greece, Indonesia, Madagascar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Serbia,” the company noted.
“I do not know exactly who was hacked, but the infections were carried out through spoofed websites,” Martirosyan explained.
