RPA congress re-elects Serzh Sargsyan as party’s chairman
Armenia's third President Serzh Sargsyan was re-elected on Saturday as the Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA). The respective decision was made by the party’s congress on Saturday. Sargsyan's candidacy was backed by 523 delegates out of 525 with only two against votes.
During the event, the Executive Body of the Party was elected. 17 members were included in the Body which now has the following composition: Tigran Abrahamyan, Armen Ashotyan, Karine Achemyan, Karen Avagyan, Vahram Baghdasaryan, Margarit Yesayan, Artak Zakaryan, Ruben Tadevosyan, Mushegh Lalayn, Davit Harutyunyan, Hayk Mamijanyan, Taron Margaryan, Gagik Minasyan, Anna Mkrtchyan, Samvel Nikoyan, Eduard Sharmazanov, Galust Sahakyan.
Serzh Sargsyan congratulated the newly-elected members of the Executive Body and wished them fruitful activity as he said the success of the party would mostly depend on the work of the Executive body.
"Your votes come from members of our party and I want you to assure our fellow party members that I would do my best to justify their trust. I have a desire that our supporters, those who have continued and would continue the struggle for the future of our country, be sure that neither me, nor the members of the Executive Body and the delegates present here will ever succumb. We will do our best for our country to throw off this nightmare and restore what it had and even more - build a better Armenia," Sargsyan said in his concluding remarks.
