‘A clash of institutions’: My Step faction head presents draft motion of no-confidence in Yerevan mayor
Yerevan's City Council started debates on a draft motion of no-confidence in Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan at a special meeting on Wednesday morning.
The draft document was presented by Armen Galjyan, head of the ruling My Step faction of the Yerevan City Council. The faction initiated a vote of no-confidence in Marutyan last week.
Galjyan thanked the mayor for his work, calling it effective. He stated the impeachment process is a forced measure due to the crisis between the municipal council and Hayk Marutyan.
He underlined that there is no antipathy towards Hayk Marutyan.
"There is no personality problem here, it is simply about a clash of institutions," said the head of the faction.
Galjyan admitted that Marutyan's decision to quit the Civil Contract party is only a formal pretext to start an impeachment process, while the actual problems started long before that.
Non-partisan Deputy Mayor Hrach Sargsyan has been nominated for the post of mayor, which indicates that there is no political subtext, Galjyan stated.
“Actually, there is much to talk about, but I would like to underscore that the problem is the clash of institutions,” he noted.
