More men than women die from Covid-19 in Armenia, specialist says
Over the past 14 days, the number of daily Covid-19 cases in Armenia dropped by 58% to 141, Romella Abovyan, Head of the Department for Epidemiology of Noncommunicable Diseases and Nosocomial Infections at the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, told a seminar for media representatives on Saturday.
In her words, 41% of those infected with Covid-19 in Armenia are males and 59% are females. However, more men than women have died from coronavirus in the country, she said, adding the fatality rates among men and women make up 57% and 43%, respectively.
3,456 people have contracted Covid-19 twice in Armenia since the disease outbreak, with 1,154 of them getting reinfected nearly one year after their first infection. 3% of reinfected people were vaccinated, she said.
Also, Abovyan said that Armenia has been moved from the dangerous “red zone” to the “orange zone” for Covid-19 infections.
