Santa Claus delivered more than 7 billion Christmas gifts in one night
Santa Claus delivered more than 7 billion gifts around the world by Saturday night into Sunday morning, according to the tracking system by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) to show the jolly man's progress worldwide.
The tradition started in 1955 when a Colorado Springs newspaper ad misprinted the telephone number for kids to call Santa, sending them to the Continental Air Defense Command. Instead of turning the kids away, Colonel Harry Shoup had his staff check the radar for Santa’s location. Millions of families and children around the world have used the tracking service.
Calls came in from around the world Christmas Eve asking the 120 volunteers answering phone calls at a time where Old Saint Nick was on his trek. Volunteers spoke over 18 different languages to make sure every kid had the chance to find out Santa’s whereabouts.
