Ban on plastic bags up to 50 microns comes into force in Armenia
A ban on the use of polyethylene bags in Armenia came into force on January 1.
The ban applies to plastic bags up to 50 microns. The use of packaging bags and those made of recycled materials will still be allowed in stores, Minister of Environment Hakob Simindyan told a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
Nikol Pashinyan said in turn that the local self-government bodies were set to enforce the new requirement.
The legislative changes proposed by the Ministry of Environment were approved by the Armenian government in early 2021.
