Council of Armenia’s Parakar meets to elect new community head
The newly elected Council of Elders of Parakar, a rural community in Armenia’s Armavir Province, held a session on Wednesday to elect a new community head.
A large group of people and police forces gathered outside the local government building.
As a result of the local elections in Parakar on December 5, the Country to Live party won ten seats in the Council of Elders and elected its candidate, Valodya Grigoryan, new head of the community.
Afterwards, the Davit Minasyan bloc and the ruling Civil Contract party, that won 11 seats together in the council, elected Davit Minasyan as Parakar community head by 11 votes.
Grigoryan had to take an oath of office in the courtyard of the building on December 23, since police officers did not allow him to enter it. On the same day, the Davit Minasyan bloc filed a lawsuit in court, demanding that the mayoral election results be voided.
The Administrative Court ruled to annul the appointment of the new community head.
