Pashinyan, CSTO chief discuss deployment of peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan
CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas held a telephone conversation with Chairman of the CSTO Collective Security Council, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan amid a violent unrest in the country on Thursday, January 6, the organization said in a statement.
Zas briefed Pashinyan on the situation in Kazakhstan and the implementation of the Collective Security Council decision to send CSTO collective peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan with the aim of stabilization and normalization of the situation in the country. At the moment, peacekeeping contingents are being transferred to Kazakhstan by military transport aircrafts of the Russian Air Force.
The CSTO statement said the main tasks of the peacekeeping forces will be “the protection of important state and military facilities, assistance to the forces of law and order of the Republic of Kazakhstan in stabilizing the situation and returning it to the legal field.”
