Netflix drops new trailer for Kanye West documentary
The new Kanye West documentary jeen-yuhs is coming to Netflix in just a few weeks: another much-hyped Ye project that fans are no doubt hyped for, ABC reports.
Ahead of the first installment's release, Netflix have released a new teaser trailer showing Ye - circa 'Through The Wire' era (2002) - already showing the viewer signs of the personality he would become.
Back then though, Kanye was just starting out on his own journey as a rapper, though the early 2000's had also seen his emergence as one of hip hop's freshest producers and talent once he became an in-house producer for Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella Records.
In the trailer, Ye is in a session with collaborator and songwriter Rhymefest when we first hear 'Kanye' and 'genius' thrown around.
"Me and Fest got into an argument," Ye, then 25, says to camera. "I felt like he disrespected me man. Tried to tell me I wasn't a genius yet."
"Well, who are you to call yourself a genius?" Rhymefest replies. Cue Kanye offering up a smirk. Check the full clip below.
The documentary, split into three acts, has been the brainchild of filmmakers Clarence 'Coodie' Simmons and Chike Ozah, who have been working on what would be jeen-yuhs for over 20 years; collecting footage of the rapper and producer at each stage of his career.
The film will feature previously unreleased archival footage of Kanye, as well as reportedly covering his doomed 2020 U.S. presidential campaign, and the loss of his mother, Donda West.
