Opposition MP: Current Armenian authorities are a ‘gift’ for any country
Although Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev addressed various aspects of relations with Armenia and the Artsakh issue at the latest press briefing, the reason for his urgent meeting with reporters was essentially the recent developments in Kazakhstan, Armenian opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan said on Thursday.
“In his speech Aliyev spoke in detail about the changes taking place in Azerbaijan, the personnel reshuffles and the fight against corruption. He thoroughly addressed the price rise in the country, tried to justify the inflation and promised to implement social programs,” he wrote on Facebook.
The lawmaker, who represents the With Honor faction, believes Aliyev is trying to prevent a possible political crisis in Azerbaijan, the grounds of which are comparable to the current situation in Kazakhstan.
“The mere fact that a large number of Azerbaijani citizens have been involved in terrorist acts in various countries and many of them are currently in Azerbaijan, as well as the presence of active or passive cells of various extremist groups in the country, which have been repeatedly talked about, is enough to cause an explosion at any time.
“If we add to this the accumulation of wealth in the hands of several clans, the extreme polarization of society and the disproportionate development of the country, then everything falls into place. Aliyev really has a lot to think about and something to seriously fear.
“The only issue which he has no worries about is the rule of the current leadership in Armenia, which allows him to feel not just comfortable, but in any situation, based on political or propaganda goals, to insult, humiliate them and get away with it.
“The current Armenian authorities are a 'gift' for any country that has something to gain in our region and wants to get the most out of it,” Abrahamyan noted.
