5-year demonstration ban in Van extended again
The Governor's Office of Van in Turkey has again banned protest marches and open-air meetings for 15 days, citing "public safety," Ermenihaber reports.
In a written statement released on the Governor's Office said that the ban has been imposed starting from January 14 through January 28 "out of security considerations to prevent possible terrorist attacks and provocative actions, to ensure the security of the residents and their property."
To note, the first ban on meetings and demonstrations was imposed in Turkey's eastern province of Van on November 21, 2016. Since then, it has been extended by the governor's office for 15-day periods. The demonstration ban has been in effect for 1,519 days.
