MP: Incident involving shepherd shows vulnerability of Armenian border settlements
Thursday’s incident in which Azerbaijani forces kidnapped an Armenian shepherd from the village of Tegh in Syunik Province and later returned him to Armenia with the mediation of Russian peacekeepers clearly shows the vulnerability of Armenia’s border settlements in terms of security, according to MP Tigran Abrahamyan from the opposition With Honor faction.
In a public post on Facebook on Friday, the lawmaker said the Armenian troops on duty at the border section should have prevented the shepherd from getting close to Azerbaijani positions.
“Even if the entry of our compatriot into the danger zone was not prevented, the advancement of 4 Azerbaijani servicemen into the Armenian part of the border, the shoving and kidnapping of the shepherd should have been recorded,” Abrahamyan noted.
"By the same logic, the Azerbaijanis could have descended to the Goris-Tegh-Stepanakert highway, resorted to a provocation and it would not have been detected, let alone prevented.
“I do not know how many times we have to talk about the problems and their solutions, when the “solutions” for the current government are within the framework of the Armenian-Turkish flirting and unrequited love with Azerbaijan,” he said.
