Coronavirus restrictions target middle-aged people - protest outside the health ministry
"The Armenian authorities used to state that older people are more vulnarable to COVID-19, however the measures taken to prevent the spread of the virus target mostly middle-aged people," the Founder of 'Free will' initiative Ara Zohrabyan stated on Monday during a protest against the new Covid-19 restrictions announced by health authorities.
To remind, according to the government decision, all unvaccinated citizens and those failing to present PCR test certificate with a negative result are banned from entering number of public places. The list includes hotels, public food courts, gyms, libraries, museums and other cultural establishments.
In Zohrabyan's words, the government lacks any tools to control the disease spread except targeting the workers. "The new restrictions will not make people who have refused to get vaccinated out of the fear of losing the job, get the vaccine only for visiting a restaurant," Zohrabyan stressed.
He reiterated the demand of the initiative led by him that the vaccine requirement cannot be imposed on people and that citizens should decide for themselves to get vaccinated or not. The function of the government, per him, should be providing objective information.
