Armenia’s Temple of Garni among world’s best monuments from Roman era
Armenia’s Temple of Garni is on the list of world’s best monuments from the ancient Roman period (754/753 BC-476 AD) published by Belgian online magazine Le Vif Weekend.
Garni comes 37th among 51 most beautiful monuments, the Armenian-European Cultural Center reports.
The Temple of Garni was built in the 1st century AD by Kink Tiridates I of Armenia as a tribute to the sun god Mihr. It is set on the edge of a gorge overlooking Azat River in the village of Garni in Kotayk Province.
The Temple of Garni is the only monument in Armenia that has been preserved from the era of paganism and Hellenism.
The Colosseum of Rome tops the list of the world’s most beautiful Roman monuments.
