Opposition MP: Armenian army reforms must focus on soldiers
Armenian MP Tigran Abrahamyan, who represents the opposition With Honor faction, on Thursday addressed the issue of military reforms, saying they must focus primarily on soldiers.
"Servicemen must be at the heart of reforms in the army,” he wrote on Facebook.
He believes that if the issues of professional training of the military personnel, the combat readiness of military units and firm social guarantees are not tackled, the remaining components of the reforms have “zero significance”.
“Without increasing the attractiveness of the military profession, it is impossible to carry out any effective reforms in the army, regardless of the equipment and armament purchased or the army food quality,” Abrahamyan said.
“If we fail to replenish military ranks with highly-intelligent, knowledgeable and patriotic people, within the next 3-5 years the army will face a new major crisis, which will be deeper than the crisis after the change of power in 2018 and the 44-day war in 2020,” he noted.
