Some 80% of hospitalized Covid patients in Armenia infected with Omicron – minister
Around 80% of hospitalized Covid-19 patients in Armenia are infected with the Omicron variant, Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan said on Thursday.
At the same time, the minister noted that those infected with Omicron do not experience serious symptoms, and if the current figures had been recorded during the Delta outbreak, the hospitalization rates would have been much higher and so would the workload of the healthcare system.
Avanesyan called for vigilance despite the low hospitalization rates. She underscored that the average age of Omicron patients is 47, which means that more and more younger people catch the virus.
In addition, there is a high rate of infection among children. Children's wards at hospitals are working intensively and are overloaded at this point, she said.
