Daily Covid cases in Armenia grew by 437% over past two weeks, specialist says
Daily coronavirus cases in Armenia increased by 437% over the past two weeks, Romella Abovyan, Head of the Department for Epidemiology of Noncommunicable Diseases and Nosocomial Infections at the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, told a news conference on Wednesday.
"Over the past 14 days, the number of virus cases among children aged 3-5 years increased 7.3 times, among kids aged 6-17 years – 4 times and among children aged 18-23 years – 5.3 times," the specialist said.
According to her, an increase in new Covid-19 infections has been recorded in all regions, but the highest numbers are registered in Yerevan.
Also, Abovyan stated vaccinated people do not become severely ill from Omicron, adding they have mild or no symptoms.
“Naturally, there are cases of hospitalization, but Omicron is several times less likely to land patients in the hospital than the Delta strain,” she noted.
