Expert stresses need for strategic alliance between Armenia, Iran
Armenia and Iran need to create a joint security system, Armenian expert on Iran Vardan Voskanyan, who heads the Department of Iranian Studies at the Yerevan State University, told the Armenia-Iran International Forum on Wednesday.
"We need to create an atmosphere in which relations will develop and eventually lead to the signing of an Armenian-Iranian strategic alliance agreement,” the expert said. “Yes, it has become a necessity given numerous challenges facing the region, including the presence of terrorist groups.”
In Voskanyan’s words, Armenia and Iran are the oldest civilizations in the South Caucasus, and the border between them is among the oldest in the world.
“There are few countries in the world that share such an old border, which is also one of the most important elements of ensuring the security of both countries,” the expert stressed.
Also, he highlighted fraternal relations between the two peoples with different religious views, cultural heritage and civilizations.
"We, the ancient states and peoples of the region, must jointly overcome the challenges," Voskanyan noted.
