Armenia never set preconditions for border delimitation and demarcation, says security chief
Armenia has never put forward preconditions for the delimitation and demarcation of the border with Azerbaijan, Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan told reporters at a briefing on Thursday, referring to Azerbaijani allegations.
He cited the Sochi trilateral agreement of 26 November 2021, which says the parties agreed “to take steps to increase the level of stability and security on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border” before the start of border delimitation and demarcation. Armenia just wants these agreements to be fulfilled, Grigoryan stated.
“Moreover, with the Armenian and Azerbaijani troops stationed very close to each other, any political process could affect the situation, leading to tensions,” he said.
Therefore, Armenia proposes a mirrored withdrawal of troops from the border area and deployment of border troops there to pave the way for a smooth delimitation and demarcation process, Grigoryan explained.
“I believe if all the agreements are acted upon, no such issues will arise," he said.
