Armenian opposition to boycott parliamentary commission’s inquiry into 44-day war
Armenia’s opposition Hayastan (Armenia) and With Honor factions will boycott the inquiry into the 2020 Artsakh war to be carried out by an ad hoc parliamentary commission.
The ruling Civil Contract party’s parliamentary faction on Thursday announced the formation of a commission of inquiry into the circumstances of the 44-day war.
In a joint statement released on Friday, the opposition factions argued that the commission cannot objectively probe the Armenian authorities’ handling of the war.
“The authorities, who declared themselves "first to blame" and "first to be responsible" for the destructive war, are now setting up a commission of inquiry led by them,” they said.
The opposition is convinced that the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defense and Security, which will coordinate the work of the new commission, cannot be objective.
“It is clear that the commission of inquiry will be engaged in presenting the “innocence” of the authorities,” the statement says.
At the same time, the opposition factions assure that the identification of those responsible for Armenia’s defeat in the war remains a priority for them.
