Ex-minister: Over 200 residential buildings in poor condition in Yerevan
Some 200 residential buildings in Yerevan are in poor condition, according to Armenia’s former social welfare and labor minister Mesrop Arakelyan.
"There are more than 200 damaged residential buildings in Yerevan, where over 10,000 people live,” he wrote on Facebook on Monday, adding the number is increasing.
“In 20-30 years, most of Yerevan's housing stock will be 100 years old. Naturally, there is no strategy for updating the housing stock and housebuilding is exclusively connected with business,” the former minister noted.
Also, he said a master plan for enhancing disaster resilience of the city will soon be submitted for debates.
His comments came after a magnitude 5.2 earthquake jolted Armenia late on Sunday. Tremors were felt in Yerevan and six Armenian provinces.
